DHR was established in the year 1982, whereas
it was gazetted by the Government of Nepal (GoN), in 1987.
The reserve has contributed to the
promotion of eco-tourism by conserving and managing rare and important wildlife
and flora, including the biodiversity and natural landscape of the high
mountain regions. In this hunting reserve some wild animals and birds including
naur, and jharal can be hunted. The reserve has been divided into seven (7)
blocks namely Phagune, Barse, Ghustung, Dogri, Seng, Sundaha and Surtiwang to
facilitate systematic hunting of wildlife and birds by issuing hunting licenses
(supplementary and general) through professional hunting groups and allowing
domestic and foreign nationals to hunt.
